The emphasis in Year 9 is to expose students to as wide a range of subjects as possible across all Learning Areas of the New Zealand Curriculum. Most subjects are compulsory with student choice being limited only to second languages. Here are the subjects taken by Year 9 students:

Compulsory

Art, Drama, Music, English, Health & PE, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Technology.

Other Subjects

Financial Literacy, ESOL (for those students with limited English), French, German, Japanese, Te Reo Māori.

Students choose two of these subjects which are half year courses
