Whānau Support

Haere Mai.

Newlands College actively plans for, encourages and supports Māori Students and their whānau in their pathway to succeed highly in all areas of Newlands College.

Newlands College seeks to promote high quality Māori Language education in the form of Te Reo Māori, and Kapa Haka groups.

Student leadership is promoted through the Komiti Māori which organises events such as Matariki, Māori Language week, professional development for staff, and junior end of year trips. The Māori student representative on the student executive has responsibility for running this Komiti.

The Whānau Advisory, entitled He Roopu Manaakitanga mo te Whānau, is a group of parents, staff and students who meet regularly throughout the year to discuss student data and implement strategies relating to improved outcomes for Māori students.
