2026 Deans

Deans play a key role in supporting the wellbeing, engagement and success of students at Newlands College. They work closely with students, whānau, and staff to provide guidance and respond to a wide range of pastoral needs. 

The day-to-day aspects of the Dean’s role include: 

  • Monitoring student attendance and following up on concerns
  • Building relationships with students and maintaining regular contact with whānau
  • Investigating issues, identifying underlying causes, and working towards positive solutions
  • Managing student behaviour and supporting restorative approaches where appropriate
  • Referring students to other members of the Guidance Network when additional support is needed
  • Supporting students with course selection, subject changes, and academic progress
  • Supporting enrolment, orientation, and transition processes for new students
  • Coordinating year-level assemblies and activities
  • Monitoring academic progress and contributing to reporting processes
