Learning Support Centre

He waka eke noa – A canoe which we are all in with no exception.

Welcome to the Learning Support Centre

At Newlands College, we believe in an inclusive environment where every student is empowered to reach their full potential. Our LSC is a vibrant part of the school dedicated to providing tailored, person-centered education.

Who is the LSC for?

The Learning Support Centre primarily supports students with Ongoing Resourcing Scheme (ORS) funding at High or Very High levels.

  • Extended Schooling: Students with ORS funding are eligible to remain at school until the end of the year they turn 21, though they may choose to transition to post-school life earlier.
  • Full Integration: We value belonging. Every LSC student is a member of a mainstream Form Class, ensuring they are a daily part of the wider Newlands College community.

Individualised Learning & IEPs

We recognize that no two students learn the same way. The heart of our programme is the Individual Education Programme (IEP).

  • Collaborative Planning: Our classroom teachers work closely with students and their whānau to develop a roadmap for success.
  • Flexible Timetabling: A student’s schedule is fully customizable. This often includes a blend of specialized LSC classes and mainstream subjects, depending on the student’s interest and goals.
  • Curriculum-Based: All students follow individualized learning pathways based on the New Zealand Curriculum, adapted to suit their specific pace and style.

Our Focus

The LSC is more than just a classroom–it is a space where we focus on the holistic development of each individual. Whether it is academic growth, life skills, or social connection, we are here to support every step of the journey.
