At Newlands College, our Enrichment Programme (formerly known as Gifted and Talented) is designed for students who are eager to push their boundaries. We believe that enrichment isn’t strictly academic. True enrichment goes beyond the classroom; it is about fostering growth and encouraging students to ‘stretch’ in whatever endeavours they are passionate about. Our goal is to provide the challenge and support necessary for students to reach their highest potential across a wide range of fields.
Identification and Pathways
We recognise talent through a holistic identification process, including referrals from staff, parents, and the students themselves. This ensures we capture a broad spectrum of learners (from those excelling in traditional subjects to those showing exceptional promise in creative or unconventional areas) who are ready to take their skills to the next level.
Opportunities for Growth
Students are encouraged to engage in various activities that sharpen their critical and creative thinking, such as:
Academic Competitions: Including ICAS exams (Science, Maths, and English), Mathswell, and the regional Science Fair.
Student Communities: Dedicated groups for Chess and Creative Writing, as well as forums for students to explore philosophy and share complex ideas.
Extended Inquiry: Other opportunities may include CREST projects, allowing for independent, student-led research and innovation.

Newlands College acknowledges that students striving for excellence, regardless of the field, often have unique pastoral needs. The Dean of Enrichment is specifically available to provide guidance and support, ensuring the emotional and social well-being of our students is prioritised as they pursue their personal goals and navigate the challenges of high-level achievement.
