The English Language Learning programme supports students from Year 9 to Year 13 in developing the language skills required for academic success and everyday communication.
Beginning with foundational courses for junior students, the programme builds on various elements such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing through relevant, topic-based learning that connects to mainstream subjects. As students progress, there is an increasing focus on the use of academic English, including writing across a range of genres, critical reading, and the use of appropriate language structures and vocabulary.
Courses for senior students provide targeted preparation for literacy requirements such as the Common Assessment Activities (CAA), as well as opportunities to gain NCEA and University Entrance literacy credits through ESOL standards.
Across all levels, the programme aims to strengthen communication skills, develop confidence, and equip students with the linguistic tools needed for success in both academic and real-world contexts.
