Every student at Newlands College has access to the Careers Advisor and the Careers and Pathways Department. We encourage students to identify their unique and distinctive skills and values with assistance from the Careers and Pathways Department.
Students should make informed and appropriate career decisions. Our Careers and Pathways Department encourages students to reflect on the demands of today’s workplace and develop the skills to cope and thrive in an ever-evolving world. We allow students to attend various workshops that promote different career pathways in school and outside the wider community.
Newlands College students and whānau have access to the Careers and Pathways Department Weekly Newsletter: Future Pathways, which provides updates on upcoming events and current information on career opportunities, trends, and pathways. Through STAR funding, senior students can access a wide range of opportunities beyond the classroom. These include attending taster courses delivered by tertiary providers in the Wellington region, participating in university visits for Māori and Pasifika students, and enrolling in short courses to gain additional credits.
STAR funding also subsidises the cost of experiential learning opportunities such as visiting Parliament, completing the Tongariro Crossing, attending WOW (World of WearableArt), and taking part in overnight camps, helping to make these valuable experiences more accessible to all students.
