Pasifika

Pulupulu lima fa’atasi e mamā ai se avega | When hands join together, the burden becomes lighter

Pasifika culture is celebrated in a vaka of different ways at Newlands College. Our Pasifika staff work closely with students, aiga, Deans and teachers to support students to succeed academically, socially and culturally throughout their journey at school. Strong partnerships with families and the wider Pasifika community help create an environment where students feel proud of their identities.

Our Komiti Pasifika is led by our elected Year 13 Taki Mateaki and is a student leadership group made up of representatives from across all year levels. Working alongside Pasifika staff, the Komiti leads Pacific Language Weeks, cultural events and student activities throughout the year to help strengthen the Pasifika student voice, leadership and cultural pride within Newlands College.

Poly Club

Poly Club is a cultural highlight at Newlands College, bringing students together through performance and celebration of Pasifika culture. Throughout the year, students build a multitude of skills as they prepare for the annual Te Kiwa Nui Festival in Porirua during Term 3. Open to all students, Poly Club offers a welcoming space to connect, learn and celebrate Pasifika cultures.
